Total lunar eclipse: A total lunar eclipse (月全食) with a red moon was seen in Wuhan, Hubei province, on Sept 8. From about 11:30 pm on Sept 7 to around 5 am the next morning, people across China enjoyed their first total lunar eclipse in almost three years. The event was also visible in other parts of Asia and in Western Australia. A total lunar eclipse happens when the moon, Earth and sun line up perfectly, allowing Earth’s shadow to cover the moon. Colors with longer wavelengths make it through Earth’s atmosphere and make the moon appear orangish or reddish. VCG
