South Korean President Lee Jae-myung went to work at Cheong Wa Dae (青瓦台) for the first time on Dec 29 after moving the presidential office back there. This marks the official restart of the “Cheong Wa Dae era”, which had been interrupted (中断) for nearly three years and seven months. The office’s name was also changed back to “Cheong Wa Dae”. Since 1948, Cheong Wa Dae has served as both the official residence and office for almost every South Korean president. In 2022, former president Yoon Suk-yeol moved the office to the former Ministry of National Defense building in Seoul’s Yongsan district, which allowed Cheong Wa Dae to open to the public.
