More than 7.33 million people have registered as voluntary organ donors in China, according to the China Organ Donation Administrative Center. More than 65,000 donors have donated their organs after passing away, helping to save the lives of over 200,000 patients with organ failure and restoring sight to over 100,000 people. Now, there are over 380 memorial sites across China to honor organ donors. Around Tomb Sweeping Day every year, the Red Cross Society of China holds memorial activities to honor selfless organ donors. In 2010, China launched pilot programs for organ donation after death and expanded them across the country in 2013.
