US author takes numerous awards

  美国普利策小说奖得主又夺文学大奖


  US author Edward P. Jones won one of the world's most lucrative and prestigious literary honours on June 15. He won the 2005 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. It carries a cash prize of about $150,000. The Washington-born author won for his novel The Known World. It also won the fiction category of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize and the 2004 US National Book Critics Circle Award.

  
Malaysia prof says: study English for jobs

  马来西亚敦促学生学好英语增强职场竞争力


  UNDERGRADUATES should equip themselves with a good command of English. That will make them more attractive to potential employers when they go looking for jobs. This is the message from Malaysia's The star newspaper. According to Malaysian Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn, skills and qualifications alone are not enough to ensure that graduates will land jobs. "It is not enough to know only the language, you need to understand the subtleties of the language, too," Fong said.
