　　THE 10th English in Southeast Asia Conference will be held December 12 to 14 at the University of Brunei Darussalam. The theme is "A Decade of Growth".

　　The "English in Southeast Asia" conference series is the result of collaboration between the National Institute of Education in Singapore, the University of Malaya in Malaysia, the University of Brunei Darussalam, Curtin University in Australia, Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, Hong Kong Baptist University, Sanata Dharma University in Indonesia and King Mongkut's University of Technology in Thailand. This is the latest in a series of annual conferences held among the countries of the region.

　　The conference seeks to explore issues surrounding the roles and functions of English within the region of Southeast Asia. Participants are invited to address the following conference themes: literature in English in Southeast Asia; Southeast Asian varieties of English; multilingualism; roles and contexts of English in Southeast Asian societies; using language in new technologies and English in the media in Southeast Asia.

　　Invited speakers are Dr. David C.S. Li and Dr. Anthea Fraser Gupta. Dr. David C.S. Li is Associate Professor at the Department of English and Communication, City University of Hong Kong. He has published widely in three main areas: Hong Kong English and World Englishes, Cantonese-English code-switching, and Hong Kong Chinese EFL learners' learning difficulties. Dr. Anthea Fraser Gupta is Senior Lecturer in Modern English Language in the School of English, University of Leeds in the UK. Dr. Gupta is well-known for her extensive work on English as a world language, and on Singapore English in particular. There also will be special country speakers from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, New Zealand and Thailand.
