The 40th IATEFL International Annual Conference and Exhibition

IATEFL's 40th International Annual Conference and Exhibition will be held April 8 to 12, 2006. The venue is Harrogate International Centre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, UK. The conference will bring together ELT professionals from around the world to discuss, reflect on and develop their ideas. Its programme will offer many opportunities for professional contact and development. There will be an ELT Resources Exhibition, open to all for the length of the conference. It shows the latest published materials, cassettes and videos, computer software and services. During this conference, the issues to be discussed include: ELT management; ES(O)L/ teacher training; English for specific purposes; literature, media and culture studies and teacher development; ELT research; testing, assessment and evaluation. The plenary speakers will be Michael Swana, Jennifer Coates and Ryuko Kubota. Michael Swana is a writer specializing in English language teaching and reference materials. His interests include pedagogic grammar, mother-tongue influence in second language acquisition. Jennifer Coates has done much research on language and gender. Ryuko Kubota is an associate professor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, US. His major publications include "Critical Multiculturalism and Second Language Education"; "Critical Approaches to Culture and Pedagogy in Foreign Language Contexts". IATEFL holds its International Annual Conference and Exhibition every spring, which is attended by around 1500 ELT professionals from more than 70 countries. It involves a four-day programme of more than 300 talks and workshops. Delegates can meet leading theorists and writers, and exchange ideas with fellow professionals from all sectors of ELT. The conference enables them to see the latest ELT publications and services in a large resources exhibition involving around 60 ELT-related exhibitors.
