LANGSCAPE : Exploring Ways of Teaching Language and Literature

LANGSCAPE: Exploring Ways of Teaching Language and Literature will be held in Singapore April 27 to 28, 2006. It is organized by the English Language and Literature Academic Group of the National Institute of Education, Singapore and the Singapore Teachers' Union (STU).
This conference is intended for all teachers of English and Literature at the university level. It features papers and workshops on language and film; using children's literature in the EL classroom; teaching text types effectively; critical and creative thinking in the EL classroom, drama and media in the English classroom, use of IT (Information Technology) in EL teaching, understanding the "what""why" and "how" of argumentative writing, inventive learning: drama as pedagogy in the English language classroom and creative grammar teaching.
Keynote speakers include Frances Christie, Emeritus Professor of Language and Literacy Education, University of Melbourne, Australia; Professor Allan Luke, Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice, National Institute of Education, Singapore; Professor Graeme Turner, Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies, University of Queensland, Australia and Associate Professor Tara Goldstein, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Canada.
The conference will be held at the Regional Language Centre (RELC), an educational project of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). Since its inception in July 1968, SEAMEO RELC has not ceased to strive towards higher goals in the service of language education of the countries of Southeast Asia. The members of SEAMEO are: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Norway are associate members.
