THE London Book Fair (LBF), the second largest international fair for the global literary rights business after the Frankfurt Book Fair, saw an increase of 5.3 per cent in total attendance and a 3.2 per cent increase in visitor numbers as it celebrated its 35th birthday in March. The Fair attracted many world famous educational relative publishers such as Pearson, McGraw-Hill Education, Blackwell Publishing, Random House Book Group, Macmillan, Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press to present.
With 1996 companies exhibiting at LBF from 59 countries, seminars and forums including the 3rd Annual LBF China Forum were open to registered attendees. The China forum, Chaired by Simon Bell, International Director of the Publishers Association, was held on March 6 at the Orange Theatre, London. With its theme of "the changing shape of the Chinese market", the forum covered many key issues in publishing in China. The speeches included "Reading for Pleasure: opportunities for trade publishers in the Chinese market" "The Chinese Market Online" and "Macro-economic overview of the Chinese publishing market and the opportunities over the next five years".
