Beijing announces torch relay route

THE Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad（北京奥组委） announced its torch relay route (火炬传递路线) at the launching ceremony (发布仪式) in Beijing, on April 26. The Beijing Olympic torch relay will reach the world's highest peak (山峰), cover the longest distance, and involve (包括) the most people in Games history. The Olympic torch will be carried across all five continents (大洲), along the ancient "Silk Road" and through 135 cities, covering 137,000 kilometers, over 130 days. "As the prelude (前奏) to the Games, the torch relay is one of the most important activities to spread (传播) the Olympic spirit," BOCOG President Liu Qi said at the ceremony. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) praised the route."By traveling along the'Silk Road'and crossing the five continents, the torch relay will be bringing friendship and respect to people of different countries, races and creeds(信仰)," IOC President Jacques Rogge said. |  |
