THE draft law on the protection of personal information has already been submitted to the State Council for approval, reported the Wuhan Evening News last week. People or organizations that are found selling personal information without permission will face criminal or financial punishments. The law aims to curb the rampant trading of personal information nationwide. Earlier this year, a CCTV program revealed that spammers have the phone numbers and names of more than 200 million mobile users – 20 percent of all users – in China. Last month, the personal records of 40,000 patients were leaked from a Shenzhen hospital.
