THE International Reading Association (IRA), based in Newark, US, was founded in 1956 as a nonprofit professional organization for those involved in teaching reading to learners of all ages.
The mission of the IRA is to promote reading by continuously advancing the quality of literacy instruction and research worldwide. Its members are dedicated to promoting high levels of literacy for all by improving the quality of reading instruction, disseminating research and information about reading and encouraging the lifetime reading habit.
