S. Korea to hire more English teachers

UP to 8,000 extra English lecturers are expected to teach in South Korean elementary and secondary schools as early as 2010. The new teachers will be responsible for developing teaching material as well as giving lessons. An education ministry official said teaching license holders who majored in English would be preferred, although the details of the qualifications have yet to be determined.
Shakespeare suffers after SAT scrapped

BRITISH secondary schools are shunning Shakespeare following a government decision to axe SAT tests. Half of teachers booked onto training courses with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) have cancelled because the playwright is no longer studied by 14-year-olds as part of the test. The RSC said many schools now believe that "Shakespeare is not a priority any more". 21ST
