THE English-Speaking Union (ESU) is an international charity founded in 1918 in Britain to promote international understanding and friendship through the use of the English language. ESU focuses on the role of English in literature, in the arts and in music, which transcend all traditional barriers, as well as in public speaking, discussion and debate. International understanding is created by the exchange of ideas and experience through the medium of a common spoken language.
