Building clinics in rural villages

EVERY village in China will have at least one medical center by 2011, the government has said. Details of the new healthcare reform show plans for renovating or building more than 3,700 community clinics and 11,000 health centers. “[Putting] clinics in rural areas and urban communities is a key part of the reform plan. It is an effective way to relieve some of the pressure on big hospitals,” said Liu Xue'en, a Peking University professor of health economics and management. There is also discussion about having public hospital doctors work for a year at rural hospitals before they can be considered for a promotion.
