LAST Thursday was World Reading Day. It's already clear that people are reading less than past generations did. According to the latest China readership survey, the percentage of Chinese who say they read books fell from 60 in 1999 to 34 in 2007. Chinese bought only five books per person on average in 2007, with four of them being textbooks.
