I REMEMBER watching the hit TV drama 24 back in 2001 and rooting for Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) Agent Jack Bauer (played by Kiefer Sutherland). The smoke of 9/11 still seemed to hang over New York City. Any action Bauer might need to take in order to save the US seemed to be justified – even if this meant, say, blowing out the knee of a bad guy who refused to reveal information about an immanent terrorist attack.
