JUAN Antonio Samaranch, 89, former president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), died of heart failure last Wednesday. The Spaniard was at the helm of the world’s most prominent sports body for 21 years. He was the second-longest serving head of the IOC, and a widely respected yet highly controversial figure.
