FOOTBALL and basketball may be “king” sports in China, but tennis has been quietly making itself “queen”. In 1988, just 1 million Chinese played the game; now, an estimated 14 million pick up racquets. These players – young and old – are turning tennis into a $4 billion (27.3 billion yuan) industry, according to Bloomberg Business Week magazine.
