EXECUTIVES from British Petroleum (BP) were summoned to the White House last week as US President Barack Obama pressed the oil company to shoulder a heavier burden of financial responsibility for the well that’s leaking crude into the Gulf of Mexico. After the meeting, BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg made a public statement, in which he bungled an American idiom and was later forced to apologize.
