Shawn Dou, 21, is undoubtedly a modern young man. But in his screen debut (首部电影) Under the Hawthorn Tree he brought to life a character (角色) finding his way in the world during the “cultural revolution (革命)” (1966-76). The pattern (模式) continues with his second movie. It’s a biopic (传记片) about Qu Qiubai, directed by Huo Jianqi. The movie is set even earlier –Qu (1899-1935) was one of the earliest leaders of China’s Communist Party. |  |
