推进中澳高质教育资源合作与共享

本文作者: 王昕
1. Could you please introduce the purpose of your trip to Beijing?

Mr Wardlaw: We came here this time to speak in a conference to introduce Victoria’s education reform.

2. Can you introduce your Connections 2010 program and the plan of its development in China?

Mr Wardlaw: We now have Chinese students, English students, and Australian students. We are trying to make students understand the comparison of living in China or in other countries and living in Victoria. Connection is a wide concept. We want all our students to connect to world. We are trying to show to Chinese students how we can make this happen.

3. Many students are choosing international schools for their advanced studies. What kind of special benefits do you think they can get if they choose to study in Victoria?

Mr Wardlaw: I think it’s two-way. We would like many of our students to come to china to study . So it’s not only that Chinese students go to Victoria. It’s a two-way dialogue and process. One of the advantages is Chinese students’ immersion in English. It’s a very intense experience in English. And for Victorian students, they come to China to experience Mandarin. That’s the first obvious benefit. The second benefit is intercultural study and intercultural understanding. We want our students to understand incredible progress in China and other parts in Asia. The benefit for Chinese students going to Victoria is to experience our high quality education.

4. Do you have any particular programmes that are most suitable for Chinese students?

Mr Wardlaw: I think one of the big advantages is that we have got a lot of experience to teach students learning English as a foreign language. We have a very diverse education system.

5. What is E5 and how can it help with teachers’ teaching practice?

Mr Wardlaw: It’s a very important reform. Teachers need professional development like everybody else. So what we have done is to explore an instruction modal. It’s called E5 which is a code that stands for explore, engage, explain, elaborate and evaluate. No matter what the topic is and what the knowledge is, this is the process that students should go through to help them to understand a subject. We are trying to get all teachers to think more seriously about how they can help students to learn. Teachers in China can get instructions about how to employ this modal in classroom through our materials published in print and online.

6. Talking about Smart classrooms, in addition to learning experience, are they very helpful with the outcome of students’ learning?

Mr Wardlaw: Technology does not mean everything. But it can be very important. There is a lot of evidence that the use of technology can engage and excite young people through their learning process.

7. How is the education reform going on in Victoria? How about your vision of it?

Mr Wardlaw:We have three goals for all of our young people. The first is that we want them to be successful learners. Second one is that we want them to be confident and creative. We want them to feel so. And we also want them to be active and global citizens.

8. From what you know about China’s current education system, what do you think are the differences between the education situation in China and Victoria?

Mr Wardlaw: China has been engaged in significant reform in education for thirty years. I worked in education system in Hong Kong for seven years. So I know a lot about how Chinese students learn. I think one of the very significant things is what we can learn from China. Chinese students are very diligent, hard working, perseverant. I think there is more in common than difference. We are both heading in the same direction.
