The Ministry of Health announced last week that all prepackaged food sold in China must carry nutrition labels from January 1 next year. The compulsory labels should indicate the amount of fat, protein, carbohydrates and sodium contained in each food article, and its energy value. The authority says that the aim of the new regulation is to encourage consumers to balance their nutritional intake and reduce the risk of getting chronic diseases.
