F. SCOTT Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby (1925) is associated with fantasy and beauty. The characters, their lifestyles and their parties appear glamorous (精彩的), but on closer inspection everything is not as it seems. The story of Gatsby becomes a dark fable (寓言) about ambition that raises a question mark over the so-called “American Dream”.
