Cheng Dongqing (Huang Xiaoming) is an underdog when he enrolls into university from the countryside. Unlike the high-flying Meng Xiaojun (Deng Chao), who comes from a family with a tradition of pursuing educational degrees in the US, Cheng failed the college entrance exam twice. Neither is he as wild and romantic as Wang Yang (Tong Dawei), who enjoys poetry and dates an American girl.
