Choosing postgraduate study to avoid job hunt is bad idea

When asked why they want to pursue postgraduate study, many students say it’s to delay the job hunt or stay on campus longer. But Zhong Weijun, director of the Research Institute for Higher Education at Southeast University, says that these test-takers are what he calls “ostriches”. “They pursue a master’s degree merely because their undergraduate major can’t secure them a decent job,” he says. “What they don’t know is that if they don’t have a clear career plan, they won’t make good use of their postgraduate years.” This will again lead to difficulties in job hunting after graduation.
