There can be no doubt that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (a series of superhero films produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters in the Marvel Universe) is a commercial success. Since 2008, the franchise has released several box office record-breaking movies, with The Avengers becoming the highest-grossing superhero film to date. But critics and comic fans have expressed disappointment over the franchise’s lack of *diversity in its characters.
