Other words that have sexist undertones include “bombshell” when describing a beautiful woman, “curvy”, for a woman who is *plump, and “shrill”, to describe a woman’s high-pitched voice. How to avoid using sexist words? The Time article suggests you *reverse the gender of the subject and see if it sounds funny with the word you want to use. If it is the case, then avoid using that word. For example, would you use the word “*nagging” or “*voluptuous” to describe a man? If you wouldn’t, then don’t use it to describe a woman.
