In order to *rein in plastic pollution, Beijing has *slapped restrictions on the use of thin plastic bags in grocery stores and supermarkets since June 2008. The measures include bans on certain plastic bags that cannot be *degraded, the *mandatory use of more environmentally friendly plastic products, and mandatory prices for plastic shopping bags in markets.
