笔者在此基础上又增加了一条要求:“If it is false, please state the reason.”
下面是其中四个具有代表性的是非判断题:
(1) Einstein observed changes in time, size and mass. (T)
(2) Hubble discovered that our galaxy is bigger than we thought it was. (F)
(3) There was a blue mould around the bacteria in the dish. (F)
(4) Fleming developed the process for making penicillin. (NI)
练习4对培养学生的分析判断能力具有很好的促进作用。在此基础上,笔者追加设计了更高层次的练习5。
练习5“Read beyond the text: Challenge the text and authority”
There are some inaccurate statements in the passage, for example, “Fleming and penicillin”. According to research papers, “Florey and Ernst Chain also contributed to the discovery of penicillin”. Can you find more?
W同学:What I found is that Fleming was the first person who discovered the existence and usage of penicillin, but he did not find the way to purify it. Therefore he gave his results to Florey and Chain, and a few years later they two found out how to purify it. So all of them contributed to the discovery of penicillin, but Fleming’s experience was the most significant one.
L同学:The passage said the first computer “was only finished after the war in 1946”, but it is said that this computer had been put into use during the war and helped people break the code from Germany.
D同学:The passage said Spencer discovered microwaves when he was experimenting with radars and noticed a chocolate melting in his pocket. According to Wikipedia, Spencer found the thermal effects of microwave instead of microwave.
