The total potato planting area in China remains stable at approximately 4.7 million hectares (公顷), as introduced at the 13th China Potato Expo, which was held in Tengzhou, Shandong province in October. Potatoes are an important crop that plays a significant role in ensuring global food security. China’s potato production is close to 90 million tons, accounting for about one-fourth of the world’s total. The country has been ranked as the world’s top producer for many years, reported People’s Daily. Among these potatoes, about 70 percent are grown in China’s Northwest and Southwest regions. In some areas, one-third of the local farmers’ income comes from potatoes.
