The World Bank recently introduced Teach Secondary, a classroom observation tool designed to enhance teaching quality in secondary classrooms (grades 7-12) across low- and middle-income countries. This tool offers a unique window into one of the most critical aspects of a student’s education—what happens in the classroom. Teach Secondary captures a wide array of secondary teaching practices that contribute to students’ cognitive and socioemotional development. Aligned with Teach Primary, Teach Secondary expands on two key aspects—Time on Learning and Instruction—to better address the higher cognitive challenges and growing autonomy of adolescent students in secondary school settings. The tool also comes with a suite of resources to support its implemen- tation, including initial stakeholder conversations, observer training and data analysis.
