Founded in 1977, the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) is a professional organization of scholars who are interested in and actively contribute to language education, bilingualism, discourse analysis, second and foreign language pedagogy and language assessment.
Since its creation in 1969, the Canadian Association of Applied Linguistics (CAAL) has been active in promoting research and teaching activities related to applied linguistics across Canada,including second language acquisition and computer-assisted language learning.
