ON August 25, a man from Texas, US helped foil a burglary 4,600 miles away in Liverpool, England whilst watching a Beatles-related webcam over the Internet.
The man was using a live camera link to view images of Mathew Street, the heart of the Beatles quarter in Liverpool and home to the Cavern Club where the band regularly played.
A few moments later, he was astonished to see three dark-clad figures set up a ladder and began climbing through the first-floor window of a sports store. Realizing that he was watching a burglary, he then alerted the local police. The police went to the scene and immediately arrested the three men on suspicion of burglary.
LATE last month, a 14-year-old Nepali boy who is only 50 centimetres (20 inches) tall was put forward for a Guinness world record as the world's smallest person.
Fourteen-year-old Khagendra Thapa Magar weighs only 4.5 kilograms and stopped growing at the age of 11.
"We found out that a Jordanian boy holds a record in the Guinness Book of World Records and he is 65 centimetres (25.5 inches) tall. But Khagendra is 5.5 inches smaller than the Jordanian guy, so we sent an application to the Guinness Book of World Records," said an organizer of the foundation set up to collect funds for the boy.
RECENTLY, twenty-year-old Londoner Lizzie Dennis found out she was adopted and that her ice skating coach was her real mother after taking part in a radio competition. She made the stunning discovery while trying to win tickets to a Rolling Stones concert on a music radio station.
Listeners were asked to text anyone in their mobile phone book, "I've just heard a rumour about you, guess what it is?" The person with the best response won tickets to the concert.
When Ms Dennis sent the text to her close friend and coach, Katrina, she got a remarkable text which changed her life.
"I was going to tell you soon. But you're old enough now to know. I was just waiting for the right time," the text from Katrina said. "It was a stupid mistake a long time ago, but looking at you now I don't regret it all." She then phoned her daughter and explained the truth, i.e. she put up Ms Dennis for adoption when she was only 4 and kept a close relationship with her when Ms Dennis got older.
