Background information
The International Linguistics Association (ILA) was established in 1943 and has become one of the main sources of new ideas in American linguistics since then.
Since 1955, ILA has sponsored an annual linguistics conference to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and research in progress among members of the international linguistic community. The Association publishes its journal, WORD, three times a year. Each issue contains articles and reviews. Occasionally, special issues on specific topics are produced.
