调动学生主观能动性 提升教学效果

引言

在以往的词汇教学中,教师往往将单词进行逐个讲解,而学生被动记忆单词。这种词汇教学方法往往收不到良好的教学效果。电子辞典无疑使词汇教学进入了一个崭新的阶段,从很大程度上解放了教师,发挥了学生的主观能动性,取得了“双赢”的效果。

以下教案为深圳外国语学校李曼老师的《新概念英语》第三册第二课的词汇课教案,供读者参考。

教学案例

教学内容:

Lesson 2 Thirteen equals one 十三等于一

Our vicar is always raising money for one cause or another, but he has never managed to get enough money to have the church clock repaired. The big clock which used to strike the hours day and night was damaged many years ago and has been silent ever since.

One night, however, our vicar woke up with a start: the clock was striking the hours! Looking at his watch, he saw that it was one o’clock, but the bell struck thirteen times before it stopped. Armed with a torch, the vicar went up into the clock tower to see what was going on. In the torchlight, he caught sight of a figure whom he immediately recognized as Bill Wilkins, our local grocer.

“Whatever are you doing up here Bill?” asked the vicar in surprise.

“I’m trying to repair the bell,” answered Bill.“I’ve been coming up here night after night for weeks now. You see, I was hoping to give you a surprise.”

“You certainly did give me a surprise!” said the vicar. “You’ve probably woken up everyone in the village as well. Still, I’m glad the bell is working again.”

“That’s the trouble, vicar,” answered Bill. “It’s working all right, but I’m afraid that at one o’clock it will strike thirteen times and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

“We’ll get used to that, Bill,” said the vicar. “Thirteen is not as good as one, but it’s better than nothing. Now let’s go downstairs and have a cup of tea.”

教学目标:

Enable the students to pronounce and use the words and expressions in this lesson with the help of e-dictionary.

课上主要应用电子辞典的下述功能:

*单词查询、真人发音

*例句、解释,登录词条笔记

*英语多词典查询(牛津英语搭配词典,COBUILD英汉双解词典等)

课后作业主要应用电子辞典的下述功能:

*例句查询

*背诵卡制作

*登录单词复习

*学习/测验/温习

教学步骤:

Step 1: Greeting & Revision

在本课的热身活动环节,有几种方案可以让学生逐渐进入状态:

方案一:让学生小组活动,利用电子辞典温习前一天学习的单词,借助“单词查询”和“真人发音”功能,纠正发音,解决语音语调问题。

方案二:教师说中文,让学生说出并拼写英文单词。出现拼写错误时,教师可以让学生利用电子辞典的“模糊查询”功能,找出正确的单词拼写形式。

T: Good morning boys and girls! Now let’s have a revision first. Who would like to retell the text?

S: The passage talks about...

T: Excellent! Now let’s move to the details——language study.

Step 2: Practicing the useful words and expressions

T: With the help of e-dictionary, can you sum up the useful words and expressions of this lesson?

Students raise their opinions and the teacher adds some missing parts.

例1: “Our vicar is always raising money for one cause or another...” Take “raise” for an example.(以单词raise的讲解为例)

T: What does the word “raise” here mean in English?

S: “Collect money”. (在“COBUILD英汉双解词典”中找出相符的答案。见图一)

T: Yes! Pay attention to the other meanings of “raise”. Can you figure out what other things we can “raise” according to the dictionary?

S1: You can raise something. For example, you can raise the window.

S2: I can raise my eyebrows. (见图二)

S3: I would like to raise a dog.

S4: How about raising a smile?

S5: I was raised by my grandparents when I was a little boy.(见图三)

学生在词典的“例句、解释”中找出相关的例句、短语, 在句子中体会单词的用法。

T: Well done. You did an excellent job!

例2: “Armed with a torch, the vicar went up into the clock tower to see what was going on.”

Take the phrase “arm with” for another example.(以词组arm with为例)

T: What does the phrase “arm with” here mean in English?

S: “Supply or provide with weapons.”(在“新牛津英语大词典”中找到英文翻译。见图四)

T: Who can show us how to use this phrase?

S: She armed them with brushes and mops. (“新牛津英语大词典”的例句)

T: Can you make up another sentence like the example?

S: We arm ourselves with advanced thoughts.

T: Good job. Who can tell us other phrases with the similar meaning like “arm with”?

S: I’ve got it. Provide, supply, equip, furnish, issue, lift out, fit up...

(在“牛津同义词大词典”中找到arm with的同义词组。见图五)

T: Then do you know how to use them? What are their similarities and differences?

S: No.

T: Can you find it out with the help of e-dictionary by yourselves?

S1: Of course! Provide sth. for sb.(见图六)

S2: She was able to furnish me with details of the incident.

S3: Everyone was issued with a gas mask.

(利用“单词跳查”快速找到同义词的用法并通过多词典查询例句加以巩固,避免只知“其词”,不知“何用”。)

Step 3: Useful Structures

Use present continuous tense to indicate that something always happens.(用现在进行时、一般现在时表示习惯性的动作)

Sentences from the text:

Our vicar is always raising money.

He is always getting into trouble.

Addition:

We are waiting for you. (说话时正在进行的动作)

Mr. Green is writing another novel. (目前一段时间内正在进行的活动)

I’m leaving for a trek in Nepal next week. (表示将来的动作)

Step 4: Practice

Practice 1

Fill in the blanks with proper prepositions:

1.Machines are driven _____ electricity.

2.You mustn’t write your exercises ____ red ink.

Practice 2

Correct the mistakes in the following sentences:

1.There must be something wrong with my watch. I feel obliged to have it to be repaired.

2. The experts set out to hunt for the puma, arming with weapons.

Step 5: Homework

Write a report of the conversation between Bill Wilkins and the vicar in the clock tower. Begin with “When the vicar saw Bill in the light of his torch, he immediately asked him...”
