From the very beginning of governed society, people have asked how much of a role the government should play in its citizens’ lives. Mitt Romney’s comments, made in the recorded video leaked last week, are an attack on those who depend on a “big government” to provide housing, food and healthcare free of cost. But there is a big question over where government help should end and where self-help should begin.
