Since the initiation of China’s Youth Volunteer Overseas Program in 2002, China has sent more than 200,000 volunteers and young technicians to African countries to help local communities, according to Xinhua News Agency. Compared with their Chinese counterparts, young volunteers from Western countries have been working in Africa for decades. Volunteers work in Africa teaching languages, training technicians, setting up cable connections, offering agricultural instruction and helping in many other areas. Africa has been a popular destination for young people around the world to expand their horizons and the trend is set to continue.
