ATESOL/ACTA Conference 2006

ATESOL/ACTA Conference 2006 will be held April 19 to 21. The venue is Riverside Girls High School in Sydney, Australia. Its theme is "Education for The Whole Person: The TESOL Response".
At this major Australian and international forum, educators in all areas of TESOL will come together to examine the relationship between education and other factors affecting the lives of students, teachers and administrators. This is a continuing topic of interest in both ESL and EFL education. At the conference, presentation categories will include language and culture; social justice and equity; psycho-social issues and resettlement; pedagogy and professionalism.
The keynote speaker is Professor Mary Kalantzis. Kalantzis is a research professor at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University(RMIT), Melbourne. Her academic research and writing crosses a number of disciplines, including history, linguistics, education and sociology. The plenary speaker is Professor Leo van Lier. Van Lier currently teaches at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California, US. His research interests include educational linguistics, second language acquisition, computer-assisted instruction, discourse analysis and bilingual education.
The Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA) is a national coordinating body for TESOL. Its objectives are to represent and support the interests of teachers of English to speakers of other languages; to ensure access to English language instruction for speakers of other languages; to encourage implementation and delivery of quality professional programs and to promote study, research and development of TESOL at state, national and international levels. Association for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages New South Wales Inc. (ATESOL NSW Inc.) is a member of the Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA), and is affiliated with the international association TESOL Inc.
