English use increased in Filipino schools
菲律宾出台法案 将英语作为教学语言
PHILIPPINES Education Secretary Jesli Lapus last month issued a Department Order which seeks to increase the use of English as the medium of instruction in schools. Lapus said that English shall be used as the primary medium of instruction in all public and private schools at the secondary level, including laboratory and experimental schools as well as vocational and technical institutions.
Many UK workers need English classes
调查显示英国毕业生英语能力不过关
WORKERS in Britain have such poor mastery of English reading and writing that an average of one in three businesses is forced to send staff for remedial "catch-up" lessons in basic literacy skills, reveals a recent report by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the employers' organization in Britain. Poor knowledge of basic English and maths is said to be putting Britain at risk of losing jobs to countries like India and China. CBI says the government must act urgently to improve poor standards of English among Britain's school leavers.
