Malaysian youth have poor grasp on English

THE poor command of English among young Malaysians today is worrying, according to a recent survey by the Malaysian Youth and Sports Ministry. Deputy Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said the problem inhibited the competitiveness of Malaysian youths at international conferences. He attributed the handicap to the lack of a "positive language environment" and the negative opinion that speaking English would lead to "Anglicization".
