A RECENT survey reports growth in the Japanese young English learner market, according to Kyodo News. The survey carried out by research department of education provider Benesse Corp. shows that over the last five years, the percentage of pre-school children in Japan attending English conversation lessons has almost tripled. They report that 14.2 per cent of children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years are learning English, up from 5 per cent in 2000.

MARTHE Jocelyn, a writer who has also designed clothes and toys for kids, has won the first-ever TD Canadian Children's Literature Award for her book "Mable Riley: A Reliable Record of Humdrum, Peril and Romance", reports CBC. The award was established last year for the most distinguished children's book of the year. "Mable Riley", aimed at children aged 10 to 13, is a funny story about a young girl and her sister living in Ontario in 1901.
