Pearson in distance learning deal 培生成功收购美国网络教育服务公司
TEXTBOOK publisher Pearson has signed a deal to acquire the distance learning company eCollege for $538 million. ECollege.com is a US company that develops online degree programs for universities and other institutions. In 2006, the company had approximately 1.2 million students enrolled in at least one course. Pearson said it offered $22.45 per eCollege share.

A RECENT survey by the Malaysian Higher Education Ministry showed that 77 percent of lecturers at public institutions of higher learning have a good command of English while the remaining 33 percent are moderately good. Higher Education Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Adham Baba said the ministry had to ensure that lecturers excelled in TOEFL examination before being sent abroad for doctorates.
