A NEW citizenship test is to ensure Australia strikes the right balance between diversity and integration. The government has released a 40-page draft detailing what it regards as the 10 essential Australian values every aspiring citizen must embrace. In order to become a citizen, migrants will need to correctly answer at least 12 out of 20 questions. Migrants would also need to demonstrate an adequate understanding of the English language if they were to realize their aspirations.

INDIA’S Ministry of Human Resource Development is considering starting a program that offers audio lessons in English for students. The program stems from the department’s concern about the ability to communicate in English. The lessons, which are to be broadcast through 11 stations across the country, are aimed at building students’ skills in spoken and written English. The program is expected to take off in November.
