THE Korea Times hosted the fourth International English Contest across South Korea recently. More than 2,000 students participated in the contest, which consisted of a speaking and listening test and essay writing. Winners of the first, second, third and fourth prizes in each test will get cash awards and a scholarship for study in Canada. The Canadian education office set all test questions and will evaluate contestants as well. Results will be announced on September 21, with the awards ceremony to take place in November.
ETS has new academic proficiency test

EDUCATIONAL Testing Service (ETS) has announced that it has launched a new version of its Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress (MAPP) test, an integrated assessment of college-level reading, writing, critical-thinking and mathematics skills in the context of the humanities and social and natural sciences. Students can take it anywhere there is access to the Internet, and at any time, within the testing window established by the institution. Scores are available immediately after completion of the test.
