THE US government is launching a pilot foreign language-teaching program to boost the study of languages and regions of the world critical to national security. Texas, Ohio and Oregon will receive $333,333 each for the program, which includes the expanding foreign-language training in Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. Study-abroad opportunities also would grow.

THE Malaysian government has announced Primary School Assessment Examination candidates will continue to have the choice of taking Mathematics and Science in either English or Malay in the next two to three years. The Prime Minister explained that the schoolchildren had yet to attain proficiency in English.
